The first question most guests ask is how long to spend on the water. The honest answer: the longer you stay, the more the lake opens up.
One hour is enough for the first basin in front of Como and Cernobbio, with Villa Olmo, Villa Erba and Villa Pizzo. Two hours takes you past Torno, Laglio and the Orrido di Nesso, the first point where the mountains really close in. Three hours reaches Bellagio, Villa del Balbianello and Isola Comacina. Half a day lets you do the Como–Bellagio–Varenna–Menaggio triangle with time ashore.
If you only have one day on the lake, take the three-hour or half-day option. If you are in Como for a weekend, combine a short cruise with a separate trip to Bellagio by boat. And if you are planning a proposal or anniversary, book the two-hour sunset cruise: the timing matters more than the distance.
